To successfully participate in the Central Park Macro photography workshop you will need to have a camera or lens with macro capabilities. For a lens or a camera to qualify as having true macro photography capabilities it needs to be able to focus on small objects. To see if your camera is capable of doing so take a US quarter (0.955 inches / 24.26 mm) and point your camera at it. Is it capable of making the same picture as shown below or even closer? If you are using a point and shoot camera be sure to turn on your macro settings; that's the button that looks like a flower ( )
If you own a Nikon or a Canon DSLR you may also rent an extension tube from Central Park Photo Safari. Please note that extension tubes look like extenders but work differently as they do not have any additional glass in them. Here is an example of one:
